How To Wear A Denim Jacket
For men, the properly worn denim jacket will appear both casual and jaunty, and stylist Carla Leenders shows men the proper way to wear a denim jacket with other clothes to get that perfect look.
Hi, I'm Carla Leenders and I'm a stylist for the Styling For Men. Today, I'm going to show you how to style your wardrobe. Denim jackets can sometimes get a little bit of a bad rep because they were hijacked in the eighties by a lot of rock stars, and so they can have a little bit of a stigma attached to them.
But there's no reason why you shouldn't be investing in one now. They're great jackets for summer and they can be worn with virtually any outfit to make them look casual. One of the things you want to be careful of is not wearing it with denim jeans as that can be just a little bit too much.
Also, if you are going to wear it with denim jeans, make sure you don't try to match the colors up, as that can look a little bit too country and western. A jacket like this, which is a little bit faded, should be worn with very dark jeans, if at all. Far better is to wear a jacket like this with some casual chinos or some cords, and to stay away from the denim altogether.
Another thing you don't want to be doing with your denim jacket is to wearing it with something like a collared polo shirt. If you do, you might find that you've got too many collars going on. If you do find yourself in a situation where you are wearing a collared polo shirt with your collared denim jacket, then keep the collar standing up, don't try to fold it over, as you are just going to create too much bulk around the neckline.
Make sure it just stands up, and then that way it's not going to create any bulk there. The best way to wear your denim jacket is to layer it up. A checked shirt like this works really well with denim jackets, and you'll see a lot of them on the High Street now.
I recommend layering a check shirt underneath a denim jacket, leave your shirt open and leave your collar up so you don't get that double bulk. Then, because you've left your shirt open, just put a t-shirt that coordinates in the same color underneath. That way, you've got a little bit of your checks hanging out, but the bulk that you're seeing is your denim jacket, and the color of your solid t-shirt underneath.
Don't go for any patterned on the t-shirt or anything with a big print. Lastly, as it's starting to get a bit wintry, you might want to warm the whole look up a little bit by putting a really nice, brightly colored, woolly scarf on. That just teams it altogether with the perfect accessory, and it's the perfect jacket to guide you from summer, through to autumn, before you have to put it away in time for winter.
And that's how you where a denim jacket. .
