When it rains, you do need an umbrella or a rain jacket to protect yourself from soaking wet. But rain jackets not only come in that function, it has a fashion sense, too.
Hi, I'm Claire Wacey and I'm a personal stylist, and today I'm going to give you some great style tips. For anything you don't find in these videos, go to my website and check out all the tips I have there. Hi.
Today, I'm going to talk to you about how to wear a rain jacket. Now, as we all live in lovely Blighty, we know that it rains, well, pretty much everyday through the whole of winter. So it's really important if you haven't got an umbrella, to make sure you're wearing your rain jacket which I've got mine today.
So, I'm going to talk to you about the rain jackets I bought instead. Now, I think a really classic rain jacket would be a Mac. A Mac is waterproof, it's classic, it's been around for years, it comes back every single season and it's always in a really classic key shape.
Now, this one I've chosen is a green Mac so it's got the fastening on the inside but you can either get single-breasted or double-breasted Macs. It's nice and open on the collar and it's got a great lapel detailing as well with a slightly military feel and also has the military detailing on the cuffs. The reason I've chosen this classic Mac is because it really epitomizes style and really, I think, it's really good to introduce colour into your Mac so you can have the simple colour of like black or camel colored Mac but what makes it much more exciting and much more on trend and much more in keeping with your personality is to pick a colour because when it's raining and miserable outside, people much prefer to see some colour walking towards them rather than some kind of drab black outfit.
So I've chosen this really vibrant green but I would go for any colour when you're thinking about raincoats because, I think really, it's about standing out. So if someone's hiding underneath their umbrella, they can see this bright bit of colour coming before them and they won't knock you out with their umbrella. We've got this one which is a slightly different style.
It's single-breasted, it's got a slightly more rounded neckline so it's got a 60's vibe to it, this one, it's a bit more Maude feeling and it's got really nice detailing on the back so it still cinches you in, shows off your figure, but again, it's really stylish. I would wear this one with a little dress, some great knee-high boots and just really finish off that Maude feeling to it. So it's stylized and at the same time being a really useful piece of clothing for your wardrobe.
If, however, you're not concerned about style, you're more concerned about it working, it doing its job, then you want to go for something that's actually made for that very purpose. This is a North Face jacket, it's waterproof, it's wind proof, it's going to keep you dry, it's really a fantastic type of jacket and also I think North Face has become a brand which is synonymous to this sort of clothing. It's also really really stylish but it's a much more casual look, it's really a different sort of vibe to the styling but it does work, it's a great brand and I definitely recommend buying one.
So when you're thinking about buying your raincoats or jackets, think about adding excitement. They're not just useful, they have to look great as well and they have to tie in with your own fashion. So if you're a little bit of a Maude or you wear a lot of knee-high boots, like dresses, I'd go for a simple single-breasted high-collared raincoat.
If you're wanting something more work wear, you need to be out to fit, say, a suit jacket underneath it and definitely go for this simple styled Mac. A Mac's really useful for work wear. However, if it's just for the weekends and you're not worried about style and you're climbing up the side of snow dome or something like that, then you want to have something that's really going to work for you.
You want to go to those brands that are really great at keeping you warm and dry. So, North Face is a fantastic option. So, there are your raincoats.
I hope you
