How To Wear A Silk Dress

Hi. I'm Zoe Lem, stylist and founder of My Sugarland and today, I'm going to give you some insiders' tips of how to do fashion. I'm now going to show you how to wear a silk dress.

So, depending on the shape and colour, will depend on which accessories, but the most important thing is to nip in. Silk is a very unforgiving fabric so the underwear is very, very important in wearing a silk dress. So you need to keep smooth lines so whether it's going for pull-in Knickers Spanx, the amazing magic knickers which give you smooth smooth line or something that's just got a paper fit so you don't see them.

The bra, you don't want to go for a lace bra but you need to keep it smooth so either a molded cup or t-shirt style bra that's smooth because that's going to show through, everything's going to show through on silk fabric and especially if you go for a clinging shape. This is generally A-line, so it's a flattering shape so it nips in but the underwear is still important. The colors, this is a black silhouette but because we have the colors along here, it's flattering and it's pulling out those colors, that's most important.

Rather than going for black accessories, we will pull those out. This is a Laura Lee's dress so it's really good fun, there's lot of embroidery and we're going to play with that rather than keeping it dry and boring, we're going to go fun. So, day or evening, if it's day, you could either go for a little pump, these are Capricorn pencils so they're quite cute.

You could still wear them, you know, out and about, you're not going to feel that you are wearing really drab shoes or the little lace up. So, we're pulling out the colors within this pattern here and it's the same with any dress. You're going to pull out the colors within there and use those for the accessories.

If it's going for evening, as in little bit of a heel but rather than going for some boring court shoes or pump, we've got this. This is suede little Betty Jackson boots which again, very own trend, but it's pulling in from the colors. Platforms, so they're comfortable.

These are Betty Jackson and they're really comfortable. These little Eley Kishimoto shoes, again pulling out the tones in that colour, so that's really bringing the whole thing to life, other accessories again, the bag. We don't want to get matchy matchy, so it's pulling out the tone but red shoes and red bag gives balance, so that works really well.

You could go hair band, going a little bit fun whether it's going round the head or over the top of the hair. Again, just a nice way, this is your necklace, you don't need a necklace with this dress. It's going to be too much, you'll kill it.

So just going for a hair band or for earrings, so going for something like this, or again, following in the theme we carry through on the style, these little anchors, little hard. So, playing on that quirky feel but without going too much, so keep little dark on those with a silhouette that works with the overall dress. Again bringing colors with those over the arms, you don't want to go too heavy because it's quite a light fabric.

But the most important thing with a silk dress is the underwear, work with the shape and pull out the colors. If you get that right, then you get it perfect. And that's how to wear a silk dress. .
