Hi, I'm Zoe Lem, stylist and owner of My Sugarland, and today I'm going to give you some insider's tips on how to do fashion. I'm now going to show you how to wear a strapless dress. It doesn't suit everyone, and if you insist on doing it and it doesn't work, then there's ways to style it to make it work.
So, if you're very pear-shaped, you need to be very careful, because you've already got that shape going on, and if you do strapless, it's going to really accentuate the pear-shape, so you need to bring the balance back to the shoulders. So, it's about what you do on here to balance out the A-line here, so that you look in proportion, and it brings back that hourglass shape. So, we're going to do a little jacket.
Depending on what you're wearing this for, you can go a bit funkier and do a little leather jacket over it, or we'll do a little black, that just brings it back onto the shoulders. So, as soon as you've got the balance back onto the shoulder here, we don't want to cover too much of the dress, this balances out here, so it works. It brings it back, so you've almost not got a strapless dress anymore.
This dress is a little Minnie's closet vintage-y style, but then we're going to put new things with it so it's not full on vintage. This is a little hose belt. They do great little belts for nipping in the waist, so, really accentuating the waist, adding that kind of real hourglass silhouette underneath the jacket.
Rather than going for big accessories and big necklaces, there's a lot of detail going on here already. And especially if you're going for a pattern on the dress, you need to be careful in what you're doing for accessories. So, we're going for a little fascinator hats, again, kind of that vintage-y twang but without going too on-theme.
This is a new designer, this is Morgan Alexander. Rather than going matching black, we're actually throwing in another color. We're going to go for a metallic.
This metallic's a really great way to brighten up an outfit. We're going to go for a metallic gold sheer, a vintage-y style, but they're new, they're Harbor. And then we're going to balance out this gold, so we've got the gold head, bag, and shoes.
So, the three bits of gold are really lifting out that black. So, we could go black and we could tie that in. But it's quite nice to have a little bit of twist, and not go with the obvious.
And the shine is great for brightening the face. And this is how to wear a strapless dress. .
