How To Wear A Suede Jacket

If you think suede jackets are too stiff and structured of a look, well, they can actually be softened up. This is our guide on choosing and wearing the right suede jacket for you.

Hi. I'm Carla Leenders and I'm a stylist with The Glass Slipper. Today, I'm going to show you how to style your wardrobe.

Suede jackets can be a little bit problematic especially if you get one that's oversized or a little bit too stiff. My first piece of advice would be to go for something that's really soft. Don't go for anything that's stiff or a little bit cored because it would be too structured.

You want something that hangs a little bit and also to go for something that's quite tailored so that it fits well to the body. What you don't want to do with a suede jacket is to go for something big and bulky. So, make sure it's a very very fine suede like this.

It's almost sort of like a shammy leather and also it's something that is fitted. This suede jacket works really well because it's got knitted panels in it so it just really contours to your shape and it doesn't look boxy which can often happen with suede jackets. My second piece of advice would be to go for a really neutral colour.

I tend to stay away from really light shades but if you are going to go light, something like this gray works really well because it's not going to show every piece of dirt. Be careful when you're wearing it as to what you're wearing with it. If you wear a jacket like this with something like a very dark denim, it can rub against it and the blue will come off onto it and then it's very difficult to clean.

Go for something that's a bit of a neutral colour but also slightly darker like this will work well because so much colour's not going to transfer onto it and it's just going to be easy to keep it looking good. When you're wearing a jacket like this, this should be the statement piece so this should do the talking. You want to keep all your other things quite simple.

So, I recommend just wearing it with perhaps some skinny black jeans so it's a blank canvas and something like this plain sweater. This has got a little bit of detail going on which won't even be seen underneath the jacket. But it's a good way to stop your outfit from looking so plain when you take your jacket off.

Lastly, if you're going to accessorize a jacket like this, don't go for anything too bulky as it's, again, going to contrast too much with the jacket. Go for something simple like a tonal coloured silk scarf because the fluidity of this is going to work really well with the softness and the fluid fill of the suede jacket. It's not going to add too much bulk to the neck.

It's just going to contrast with it quite nicely. Accessorize a little bit to make the outfit look stylish but not overwhelming because you want the one key piece, your suede jacket, to do the talking. And that's how you wear a suede jacket. .
