I'm here to talk you through how to wear a tuxedo. A tuxedo would traditionally be worn to any black tie event that you would maybe be invited to. Also, in the United States, many weddings are black tie so tuxedos would be part of the dress code.

Those would be the main events that you would generally wear a tuxedo to. In some cases, prom is another event where you may wear one. The first part of a tuxedo that I'll be describing is the neck wear.

As you can see here, I've chosen to wear a black bow tie. This is very, very much the traditionalist choice, however you will see that in some black tie events, sometimes people will tend to wear a colourful bow tie or even more rarely an actual tie, although I would always suggest you're best off wearing a bow tie and in my opinion, a black bow tie. Secondly, we'll talk about the shirt that you should wear with a tuxedo.

There are a few indicators of the proper shirt to wear with a tuxedo. Firstly, it should have double button holes where you would place dress studs. These can either be in black or sometimes, you'll find them in mother of pearl.

A tuxedo dress shirt will also have a marcella bib and the bib will cover just underneath the waistcoat. The reason why it's only a bib is because one of the facets of wearing a tuxedo is you should never have your waist showing, it should always be covered either, in my case, by a waistcoat, or alternatively with a cummerbund. Something to look for as well in a tuxedo is you really shouldn't have notched collars on a tuxedo, a tuxedo should be in a shawl collar like the one I'm wearing or in a peaked collar which is a slightly more rakish and formal version of the jacket.

For footwear, you should be looking to wear a black patent leather oxford that would be your traditional shoe to wear with a tuxedo. You should always be accessorizing using a pocket square, ideally one that is in a similar colour to your shirt or your waistcoat. That concludes everything and that was how to wear a tuxedo. .
