Hi, I'm Zoe Lem, stylist and owner of My Sugarland, and today I'm going to give you some insider's tips on how to do fashion. Now I'm going to show you how to wear a velvet dress. So, this one has got quite a pattern through it, so you've already got those colors and that's ease for when you're working out what to do for accessories.

So we've got the pinks, we've got our lovely browns, we've got the gold colors. So when you're picking the color, go for the color that's within the pattern as a way to start. So picking out those lovely tones, we've got the dark blacks and we've got the nouveau colors.

Velvet can be quite an old-fashioned looking fabric, and it can be quite frumpy and quite dated. This is a vintage dress, but rather than do this with very dressy accessories, I'm going to shake it up and we're going to go very modern and very on trend. And, we're going to do it with black and we're going to do it with leather, and we're going to go a little bit biker-y with the velvet.

So, we're going to go studded so it's not going with the kind of frumpiness of that style. So, these are Betty Jackson studded little boots. Ankle boots, again, platform, comfortable, great shape but it just mixes that shape up.

We're then going to really go with highlighting the waste so we really want to nip in, to give you a great shape. These Haas belts are brilliant because they really can pull in because they've got elastic, so they can really give you perfect hourglass shape, and the elastic just means that you can wear them around the waist or underneath the bust so you can change it up a little bit without having to have two belts. So, again, the shape on this works with it, adding the detail, so we've got the black belt, the shoes, and then we're going to go with a little snake bag where it's got a chain and it's a clad so it's really handy, but it's mixing in those textures and those fabrics.

Very eclectic, you still need the balance, so we're mixing in black with these velvets. We've got the balance. We've got the black here, black in the shoe, and the black in the bag.

So it all works really well together. We're then going to pick out the gold tones in the accessories, and we're going to just go for a necklace over the top. So, again, it's kind of layering.

It's that slightly bohemian, hippy shape, and textures mixed together, really on trend. And then we're going to just add the little jacket. Rather than go with a velvet jacket and look like a mother of the bride, we're going to go with the leather again.

It's very Kate Moss, very on trend, but it's how to do velvet in a very cool way. .
