Choosing black shorts can be more about choosing the color, or the dark color that suits you, rather than the style of the short per se. If you've got a lighter skin tone, I would recommend not wearing black shorts, it would be too harsh in comparison to your lighter tone of skin. So, black shorts will actually suit people who've got quite dark skin.

Medium to dark skin, dark hair, dark eyes, they have the skin tone to be able to pull off wearing black without it looking too harsh against the skin. If you've got a paler complexion, a sort of pale to medium complexion, I would recommend going for navy, or going for charcoal or maybe chocolate, if you still want the formality of wearing a dark short without having too much contrast against your skin. Now, the way that you might style these black shorts, if they suit you, you might put these together with something a little bit formal, if that's the look that you're aspiring for with dark shorts.

You might put that with a more tailored shirt if you were wearing that for a smart casual look, or wearing that into the office if you're able. If you're wearing that into the office, you might do that with some tights. In the winter time, you might do a peg tights.

You might do that with a patterned tight, if you're not too curvy on the bottom half. That could be worn with ankle boots, it could be worn with a wedge heel, it could be worn with court shoes, and then on the top. If you're going for that slightly more formal look, you could do it with a crisp shirt, you could do it with a blouse, just being congress with what you're wearing on the top and bearing in mind the footwear.

These could be taken down a bit by wearing them with a tailored t-shirt and some nice flat shoes as well, either closed toe or open toe. I wouldn't put this type of tailored dark look with very casual footwear, with flip flops and a tank top, for example. What we want to do is keep the dark tailored look in that type of setting.

And that's how to wear black shorts. .
