When you're wearing city shorts, the key is really in the title - it's CITY shorts. So, the first thing you notice when you look at a pair of these is how tailored they are, they're very, very structured. I think the key thing is you don't want to match these things up with something very floppy, like a floaty caftan or a ruffly gypsy top.

It can work really, really well in autumn or springtime. It can work beautifully in the wintertime as well. I would - depending on what the season is - I would have leg coverage at all times, either whether it's going to be sheer in the summertime, whether you're wearing a sandal foot in summertime or whether you're choosing that opaque tight in the wintertime.

So if we choose the opaque tights and run with that just for a second, you might start that up with black opaque tights and ankle boots. You might do slightly higher boots, just under the knee, for example. But then, what you put on the top needs to be either a blazer, a jacket, or something softly structured.

Again, to reiterate, nothing floppy with this very sophisticated look. If you're doing that outside of wintertime, you might do that with sheerer tights. Again, you'd need to bear in mind the formality of the look to coordinate the accessories and footwear together with that.

You might substitute a blazer with a knitted cardigan maybe, something that's a hybrid between a cardigan and a blazer. So, that type of thing might work really well on that, but the look clearly is professional. If you're looking in the mirror and it's not looking professional, it's probably too floppy and unstructured.

So, put a blazer on top of it, put a shirt with it if it suits your body shape. This will actually suit most body shapes. If somebody is very, very curvy on the bottom, you might want to look for this type of short, this particular one is from H+M, it's got a little bit of give to it, just make sure that it's not too tight over the hips and the bottom.

If you've got curves on the lower half, look for minimal detailing on the backside and on the front. If you've got a flat hip and bottom, a flat lower body, this will also be brilliant on you. If you're very, very curvy on the lower body, you might look more for a softly-structured culottes-style that might be slightly longer, finishing just above the knee.

And as a final top tip, when choosing city shorts, always err on the side of caution when it comes to length, even if you have opaque tights on underneath. The look of this is intended to be very chic and professional, so I would adhere to the same rules as skirt length, just above the knee or just below the knee. But if you're doing a slightly longer shorts, make sure that you're teaming it up with a heel to avoid looking short and stocky.
