Hi. I'm Zoe Lem, stylist and owner of My Sugarland, and today, I'm going to give you some insider's tips on how to do fashion. I'm going to show you now how to wear cropped trousers.

These don't work for everyone and it's really about your body shape. But it's about how tall you are and how petite or full figured you are. If you're very petite, then cropped trousers are not going to work.

You need to remember that the more lines that you draw through the body, the shorter it makes something or smaller it makes something look, and that's the same with anything if you want to make a body part look smaller. You draw a line through it. You chop into the bust, you chop into the arm and it makes it look smaller.

The same works with cropped trousers. If you chop into the leg, then you're going to make your leg look shorter. So, you really need to be careful about what you're doing this with.

So, getting the right shaped cropped trouser, obviously, you can go for fitted but generally, it's not as flattering. These are great. These are John Washer trousers because they've got the darts through the bottom of the trouser.

A wide leg almost works like a culottes and like a skirt. So, a wide leg cropped trouser is generally one of the most flattering shapes and can work really well depending what you wear it with. The most important bit is about what you do with the rest of your leg.

So, if you're more petite, you want to go for all in one color. Head to toe in one color can make you look taller. If you go for a long boot in the same color or you go for tights and a pump, or you go for no tights and a neutral shoe, again this is lengthening.

The neutral shoe is lengthening so you're going to have the nude that ties in with your skin tone and then, you're going to have the cropped trouser. It's going to reduce the amount of length that it chops off your leg. It's then the proportions on the top half so if you go for a cropped trouser, you don't want to them to draw too many lines through the top half of your body so you want to keep it simple, a simple line, and you don't want to go too long on the jacket or top that you go for.

So, you want to hit really at hip length. So, going for something a bit shorter, that chops in higher versus going for something that's longer, that's really just going to make you look even shorter. A jacket that's long is going to make you look even shorter.

So, hip length tops, hip length jackets, either neutral shoes or the same colour shoe will work. Keep the neck line a bit lower because if you go too covered in the top half as well, again it's going to just really reduce your length even more. So, it's all about maybe drawing lines through the body, maybe doing a scarf that's got vertical lines and no more horizontal lines and then you can get where you're wearing cropped trousers.

They can look great and they can be a really interesting way of doing something a bit different through winter with tights or through summer, just with sandals. But get it right and it can look good. And that's how to wear a cropped trouser. .
