How To Wear Eyeliner

Hi, I'm Faye from simplyfaye dot co dot uk. I've been a makeup artist for 20 years and I'm going to give you some tips on how to apply makeup. In this video, I'm going to explain to you how to wear eyeliner.

There are many different types of eyeliner on the market. There are liquid eyeliners, gel eyeliners, pencil eyeliners and even some funky glittery eyeliners. Pencil eyeliners come in all different colours.

This one is a white one which is particularly good for going inside the eye on the bottom lid and the top lid to create a wider looking eye look. This can also be used underneath the eyebrow in the brow bone to highlight and lift the brow. Glittery eyeliners, you can get them in many different colours.

They work best actually if you're applying a darker colour, say, like a dark black and then put the glitter on top and the glitter will actually look thicker and shine through more. The glitter ones generally come with a thin brush and you can just sweep them across. The good thing about glitter is if you've done a bit of a dodgy darker eyeliner and you put the glitter over the top, it will actually make it look a lot smoother and it will help damp down any sort of errors that you've made.

I like the gel eyeliners because they're waterproof and you can apply them with a brush and basically you can build up the colour gradually. What I would do is load up my brush and then just press this along the top of the lid. These are great.

Also, you can use them on the inner part of the lid for a smoky look as well. You can also get mixing mediums where you can actually mix sort of eye shadows, glitters, and create your own custom eyeliner as such. So, what you would do is mix a bit of this product with a colour and then apply it to the eyes and you can even put a little bit of glitter in as well.

And then, quite a lot of eye shadows these days, if you wet them, they can double up as eyeliners and you can create some really funky intense colours. To give an example, you can use literally any colour eye shadow and make it into an eyeliner but do check first with your brand whether it can be used in that fashion. So, I'm going to use my slant brush again.

I'm going to dip this into some water and I'm going to go crazy. I'm going to use a bright yellow, not something you'd normally think of. We're just going to add a touch more of water, load up the brush and I'm going to hit the eye with it now but not literally hit the eye.

I'm coming on to the eye and drawing a nice fine eyeliner. Just open your eyes, close your eyes, and just build this up gradually. It's quite a nice idea when you're using a bit of a crazy colour to make it slightly thicker so it does show a bit more.

So, you start off fine and then you build up. Just open your eye, close your eye, and that's how you wear eyeliner. .
