Hi, I am a fashion stylist. And I'm going to talk to you today about various tips to do with styling. So, you want the fifties look.

What's the best way to kind of think about things like that? The 1950's was the decade of the hourglass silhouette and can be heavily seen in popular culture at the moment with the show Mad Man which everyone's obsessed with. The fifties, especially for women, was when women probably looked at their most feminine. The bust was accentuated, waist neatened and tightened, and the hips accentuated as well, so the kind of classic hourglass silhouette that is exactly what we're looking for in the fifties.

Everything was ladylike and you know, nothing too short, the full skirts were very neat and quite precise but they were usually just by the knee or just over the knee. Screen icons that people have been influenced by you know, who have great influence by the fifties are people like Jayne Mansfield, Marilyn Monroe, everyone knows Marilyn Monroe, and Sophia Lauren, and that particular shape is the very much kind of key to the kind of glamorous age of the 1950's. Now, to be able to achieve that particular look, you need a few things.

First off, the bra, there's a particular shape of bra that you will need for the fifties look which is the conical bra and it achieves that particular silhouette that we all kind of know and love about that particular era. You can get one of those very easily from any good department store and one of the best labels to go for is Triumph. They were around in the fifties and they are still doing it today.

The Triumph Dorian bra is the shape you are looking for to achieve the fifties look. For the waist, moving down slightly, for it to become nipped, a lot of women wore corsets and things like that to train their waist in a particular way. So, a lot of the time, you can actually get really good quality wasp waist to be able to cinch in at the middle, and so the skirt end up kind of flaring out at the hips for a fuller look.

The look is always very neat and very ladylike in a vey polished way. And to finalize things, in the fifties, they also used to wear, well these are stockings as you can see. But at the back of the stocking, there was a rather racy kind of line.

Everything was quite demure, and the line running up at the back of the leg is something that was quite common in the 1950's silhouette. So look out, you can either get these stockings or you can get them in tights form as well and in black. And those are just some ideas on how to get the fifties look.
