How To Wear High Waisted Shorts
This video will show you how to wear high waisted shorts. You will learn how to choose a design that best suits a long body type and how triangle shaped people can style up high wasted shorts to suit their body type.
To be able to figure out whether or not you can actually wear high waisted shorts, it's really important to actually understand where your waist is. So, a good trick for figuring out where your waste is, is to put your hands on the smallest part of your body and then to take another hand and put that hand right under the bust. If you can roughly fit two hands comfortably before the same space where you've just lifted from, so you've just lifted up your hand, placed this hand under the bust, if you can comfortably fit another hand in there, you're probably long in the body which is what I am.
So, there's plenty of space here to actually wear a high waisted trouser. If you put your hands back on the smallest part, put one hand under the bust and you can fit one and a half hands in there, you're probably quite balanced and you can also get away with wearing high waisted shorts. If your waist is very high, and you can tell that for example, if you're wearing a belt and it looks like it's perched right up under the bust, you don't have a lot of space here between your smallest point and the bust, you're probably very high waisted.
There's not a lot of space here so what we actually want to do is if there's plenty of body here to fill, that's actually the type of body shape that will wear high waisted shorts and trousers very, very well. So, I'll give you an example. This is a style of high waisted shorts.
You can see from the back, as well, and this type of short will look good on somebody who has got that long body. So you've got space to actually wear something a little bit higher. And this look, when styling it up, it tends to be quite Katharine Hepburn if we're going to go back to that type of era.
It's quite androgynous, quite boyish, actually. So I would wear that with something tucked in to show off the waist. If you actually have a waist, and that's a real asset on your body, what you could do is choose a type of high waisted short that has much more detailing around this area.
You might have the double rows of buttons that have that sailor feel to them that have a slightly higher waist. So you're not only adjusting your proportions of the body to look more pleasing to the eye but you're actually playing up and making a feature of your waist. If you don't really have a waist per say, even though you might have a space to wear it, you might choose something that's drawing less attention to that area.
So instead of choosing the double rows of buttons and the very stiff, high waisted Katharine Hepburn look, you might choose something a little bit softer. So you're still getting the look of a high waisted short without actually drawing too much attention to the middle. Putting this together, I would probably style this very similar to how you'd wear winter shorts, meaning, that if you're going to wear that in cooler climates, you might do that with opaque tights.
You might do that with ankle boots. You might do that with quite a fitted top. If you've got what we call a triangle shape, meaning that you've got a smaller upper body and a more substantial lower body, so you might be size 10 on the top, size 12, 14 on the bottom, just wear this look with caution, particularly this kind, because the eye will come right down to the hips and bottom and make you look curvier around that area.
So if you are a triangle shape and you love this look, what you might want to do is wear this with a Breton stripe on top or a pattern so that you're bringing the eye up. Wear it with a pashmina so you're bringing layers, patters, textures, to the top half of the body and still getting the look of the high waisted short. So, there's a couple of ideas - how to wear high waisted shorts. .
