Hi, I'm Carla Leenders and I'm a stylist at the Glass Slipper. Today, I'm going to show you how to style your wardrobe. I'm going to show you how to wear pleated trousers.
Pleated trousers can be a little bit of a nightmare for people, and people can also automatically discount them because they think they're not going to be flattering. Also, it seems to raise connotations of trousers from the 70's or the 80's which weren't particularly flattering. But today's versions which are a lot more modern and a lot more sophisticated can work on a lot of different body shapes.
If you're quite petite, then you can go for a baggier version like these. This style, which has some subtle pleat in it here, will work really well to add curves to your body and just make it a little bit more voluptuous in areas perhaps where you're smaller or slimmer. Something like these, because they're quite baggy should be teamed with slimmer fitting things.
Because there's a lot going on with the trousers, I recommend that you just put a really simple long sleeved t-shirt underneath it. Make sure that it's nice and fitted and not too baggy because you want to keep all the bagginess on the bottom and contrast it by putting something very slim on the top. You could then double it up with something like a slim long-sleeved cardigan.
If you've got this and then you pop your long-sleeved t-shirt inside, and then you can cinch it all in, and define your waist by adding a really nice belt. Try and keep it in neutral tone colors like these and that works really well with the tone that you've got going on at the moment. With trousers like these, I would always recommend that you wear a little bit of a heel.
So, something like this which is this season's mini heel works really well with pants like these. It just helps to elongate your legs and also stops legs from looking short or from looking bigger. If you're slightly bigger, then you'll need to go for a more fitted, or tailored pleated pants style.
So, something like this which is a heavier stiffer material, has some stretch in it, is going to work really well. It also comes up a little bit higher on the waist. It's going to do a really good job of defining the waist and slimming down your tummy area.
If you want to smart trousers like these up, you can wear them with a really nice pretty blouse. Blouses like these work really well because again they're very slim and fitted at the waist and you can also continue to define the waist by putting the belt around. That way, it's going to offset any sort of bagginess that you have around the hip and thigh area with the pleats.
These trousers work really well if you've got slightly bigger thighs or a slightly bigger bottom, as they'll just give you a little bit more give across those areas but you can still bring definition to the areas that's slimmer, like your waist, by having them come up a little bit higher and cinch them in with a belt. And that's how you wear pleated trousers. .
