How To Wear Red Lipstick
Celebrity make-up artist Daniel Sandler shows you how to wear red lipstick, a dramatic look which should be worn with more subtle eye make-up.
Step 1: You will need
Step 2: The rules
If you are wearing red lipstick, keep the rest of your make-up neutral, avoid red lip liner as it is outdated, and avoid lip gloss on top of red lipstick. When choosing colours, a general rule is that orangey reds work for everyone, and pinker reds suit darker skin tones. Bluey reds can make the teeth look grey.
Step 3: Foundation and Primer
Apply foundation followed by a primer, this will help lock in the colour and is especially useful for older women whose lipstick tends to bleed into face lines.
Step 4: Applying lipstick
Apply a thick layer of lipstick to the top lip before applying any to the bottom lip. Applying too much to your lower lip will make you look bottom heavy. If you think the look is too much for you, blot the lips with a tissue so that it looks more like a heavy stain. Complement your red lips with a peach blush on the cheeks.
Tips & Comments
that was pink lips not red. I was hoping to see a video about putting RED lipstick on. That was more of a stain and not real lip color. I'm disappointed.
I always thought you had to have really full lips to get away with red lippy, until i was given a sample of Guerlain Kisskiss lipstick (523 Exces de rouge). It really is the best red lipstick. It stays for ages and because it is matt, i can make my lips look fuller by going ever so slightly over the lip line. It is a really simple way to make me look as if i've made a bigger effort with myself than i actually have during the day and it looks great with dramatic eyes for a night out! I am VERY impressed!
I love love love red lippy. Hes wrong about keeping your eyes just totally neutral with just eyeshadow...a flick of fine black liquid liner with a pair of luscious red lips looks the business, and yes! you can still use a red lip liner actually so the colour doesnt bleed all over the place,..there is red out there to suit everyone
If you want to use lipliner, when using dark colours I find it helpful to use a matching liner after applying the lipstick, red lipstick looks terrible if it bleeds and this method works for me :)
He's wrong about the eye makeup. There's plenty of eyeshadows that look good with red lipstick. And a little black eyeliner on the top lid looks wonderful too with any red lips. I have also foudn orange-red to be one of the most hideous colors on anyone. He obviously knows nothing about reds for lips.
that looks real nice and natural. Don't forget make sure u don't have lipstick on your teeth.
wow its really good but the model person is really not that crash hot ( as in looks!)
hey guys!! You could use "Contour NO color" by BOURJOIS!! Brilliant product, it fills the lines, and prevents Lipstick from bleeding!!
Nice! Absolutely. The girls eyebrows dont need trimming! They give her face a lot of individual character and are, by the way, up to date. If you have thin plucked lines for eyebrows, reconsider, cause thats out.
I always wanted to know how yo use eye make up with red lipstick, thanks x the tip Dan!
