Hi, my names Carla Leenders, I'm a personal stylist at The Glass Slipper, and I'm going to show you how to style your wardrobe. I'm going to show you three different ways to wear a vest. Vests can be the core of your wardrobe.
I wear them under everything as an extra layer to keep you warm and also to give coverage. A vest like this which as very slim spaghetti straps is very difficult to wear on its own if you have bigger arms, or if you carry weight on your back. But it's great to layer up underneath something.
For example, if you have a very see-through chiffon or flimsy lace shirt, sticking a bright vest like this underneath is a really good way of giving yourself extra coverage so you won't have to show off any lumps and bumps, and people also won't be able to see your lingerie. Try and pick a tonal colour, that doesn't contrast with your outfit. So something like white under cream, or black under black, or a nude under a cream.
It doesn't show through, and it doesn't distract from the item over the top. Coloured vests like these are great for putting underneath shirts. You can put them under your shirt, do your shirt up half way, and let the coloured shirt show from underneath.
You can finish it off by putting a nice scarf that coordinates over the top of it. Put this as a triangle here, will help to define your décolletage area, and also to open you up. It's also a really good way of being able to add some colour into what could be a plain outfit.
Lastly, vests like these which come longer in the body and have thicker straps are great and could be worn on their own. If it's a summer's day, or it's very warm during a holiday, and you want to dress a vest like this up, you can put a belt in a nice bright colour or in statement print over the top. You can also put some funky, statement jewellery over the top.
Vests like these can also be put underneath a strong statement jacket, to give yourself a really basic underneath and not detract from the jacket on top. Pop the shirt underneath, and then if necessary add your statement jewellery, and that's a really sleek and stylish look, and a really easy way to dress your vest up. That's how to wear vests. .
