Shaving with the direction of growth only gets rid of some of the stubble and you end up looking like you havent shaved. the Gillette Mach 3 is a good razor (would not recommend the battery-powered unless you have little stubble anyway- can catch beard) and the new gel for tough beards is good too. I use palmolive green cream, a bit of shavex with lanolin and a dab of moisturizer. Exfoliating beforehand does seem to make the glide smoother and easier. Cut throats are brilliant at getting close, but need a bit of practise. Use the Acuere "Razormate" blade sharpener (Patented in GA. USA), saved me a fortune of Gilette mach 3 and Fusion blades.
