In this video, David Morris shows us how to whistle a scale.
Hello there. I'm David Morris. In 2003, I went over to America and I won the title “World Champion Whistler” and I'm here today to hopefully help you improve your whistling.
“How to whistle a scale”. First of all, you need to establish one good constant note. For example, (whistling).
Once you've established that constant note, try to whistle a few notes lower, (whistling)… and then try to whistle a few notes higher, (Whistling)… so when I'm whistling right down the bottom there, my mouth, the jaw drops a little bit, the aperture in the lips gets bigger, the tongue goes lower in the mouth.
But, when I go right up to the top, (whistling)… the opposite takes place, the corners of the mouth draw in slightly, the position of the tongue is much higher inside the mouth, almost near the roof of the mouth, and that's how the notes get higher. Whistling a scale is also very, very good for a warm up routine before a performance. I always whistle up and down quite a few scales, arpeggios (whistling)… so it's always really, really good to warm up before a concert performance by whistling scales.
And that is how to whistle a scale.
