How To Whistle Quietly

In this video, David Morris shows us how to whistle quietly.

Hello there. I'm David Morris. In 2003, I went over to America and I won the title “World Champion Whistler” and I'm here today to hopefully help you improve your whistling.

“How to whistle quietly”. We covered in one of the films, “How to whistle loudly”, you might want to look at that film, but this is obviously the exact opposite. We don't want to be forcing a lot of wind from the diaphragm.

We don't want to be forcing wind through like we do when we whistle loud. It's just a gentle flow of air, much quieter. You'll find that you'll be able to do longer phrases as well because you're not using the same amount of breath.

Here is an example, (whistling), that was in one phrase you see, that I wasn't using as much breath as I was for example , at the end of “Nessun Dorma”, which features in the “ how to whistle loud”. We can also use the equipment to get the diminuendo effect. For example, if you're using a hand held microphone like this, just take it a little bit further away to get that quieter effect or if you're standing in front of a fixed microphone just move slightly further back and you'll get that diminuendo or quieter effect.

Something like this: (whistling…). And that's how to whistle quietly.
