How To Wii Tennis
Ross explains in detail how to play Tennis on Wii Sports for the Wii console. He describes how to start a game, game modes, and demonstrates how to serve and perform ball spin.
Hi, I'm Ross, I'm the Nintendo specialist here at Game, and today I want to show you how to play Wii Tennis on Wii Sports. So, okay, first off, you put your disc into the drive, your Wii Sports disc, and then once it's loaded from the home screen you'll see this screen here. Take your Wii remote and select Tennis on the screen, and then obviously you can play up to four players if you wanted to, but today I'm just going to play single player, which will mean I will control two of the characters on my side, plus against two computer characters.
So, select your Mii character, and it will then bring you to the screen selection for how many games you want to play. You have the choice of playing a single game, a best-of-three, or a best-of-five. As you can see, I will be playing this side with both of these characters against two computer-controlled characters.
Again, if it was four-player you would each control one of these characters. So I just set out for a single game, and we'll get straight into it. Okay, very simply, to serve you have two choices: you can either just press the A button and then swing as if you were hitting the ball, or you can actually demonstrate a normal tennis serve.
So I'll do both for you. So, if I was pressing the A button serve, the ball will fly into the air, and you then swing the controller as if you were hitting it. You then swing in the motion of either a forehand or a backhand, controlling both characters on the screen.
You do not have to actually move the character, they will move automatically, it's just all about the timing of hitting the ball. The harder you hit swing, the harder the ball will go. You can swing softly, and again, placing downward movement on the stroke will show backspin, upward movement will show topspin.
What I do on this point is actually demonstrate the standard serve. So, rather than pressing the A button, I'll actually swing as if I was serving a real tennis ball. And again, computer controls the characters, you just have to make sure you time the swing with either player on the pitch - on the court, and try to win the points.
Again, much more fun if there's four of you playing, but good exercise and gives you an idea of how to play tennis. So, there you go, that is Tennis on Wii Sports on the Wii console.
