How To Win On "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?"
Who wants to be a millionaire? You do. If you're lucky enough to get cast on the show, here are some strategies for raking it in.
Step 1: Know Before You Go
At each stage of the game, a contestant is betting the money he's won so far against the possibility that he'll be able to answer the next question. Know in advance the highest amount you're willing to risk losing- your "exit sum".
Step 2: Get In The Hot Seat
It's a nerve-wracking experience, and past contestants say they've calmed themselves by ignoring the audience and pretending to have a 1-on-1 conversation with the host.
Step 3: Know Your Lifelines
There is a time and place for each lifeline. For instance, Phone a Friend. This is your key lifeline, to be used when you have no idea how to answer. Choose your "friends" wisely: aim to find people with a varied knowledge base. If they have a fast internet connection, so much the better.
Next lifeline: Ask the Audience. The audience is best at pop culture questions. Don't use them for the hard stuff.
The 50-50 lifeline allows you to eliminate 2 wrong answers before you guess. Use it when you can eliminate 1 answer on your own.
Finally, the Switch the Question option can be a lifesaver- but there's no guarantee the new question will be any easier. Save this option for last.
Step 4: A Well-Timed Bail
As you accumulate cash, remember your exit sum. Getting greedy can result in losing much of your hard-earned money, especially if the questions are starting to stretch your limits. But do make sure you've used all your lifelines before you make your exit.
Step 5: Enjoy
Despite its dramatic atmosphere, above all, it's a game. Enjoy your fifteen minutes of fame, and if you win, so much the better!
