How To Wire A Plug
Learn how to safely and securely wire a plug with this short video from VideoJug and Aspect Maintenance.
Hi there. I'm Chris from Aspect Maintenance, a large electrical company based in the center of London. Today we're going to talk about how to change a 13-amp plug.
So we're going to be using these, a pair of insulated snips. We'll just make a cut, pull it away, and snip it off, give that a twist. Again, just roughly twice the length.
Make a snip, pull it away, cut it off, twist it again. And finally the earth. Make a snip, pull it away, cut it off.
Put the brown in first, just tighten up the screw, so you have it like this. Then, you use the neutral, bend the blue one back, into there. The blue one will always be there, the brown one will always be there in the 13-amp plug socket.
And finally, the length should be perfect, just to put the earth into there. And a final tighten. So there we have the neutral, which is always the left side.
The live, which always goes through the fuse. And the earth, which is always the top pin. You can see there, it's always the longer one.
Now that the cable's in, we'll now put on the cable-grip to secure the cable in position. The screw comes through the back as such, meets the cable-grip, star head screwdriver to tighten it up. That allows, if anybody pulls the appliance, it won't break the flex.
Finally, the cover, it should clip on. And screw. And there you have the 13-amp plug.
