How To Wire An Outlet
Don't be discouraged, replacing an outlet is actually very easy. Follow our tips and instructions for an easy, worry free fix.
We are going to replace a single socket outlet. This is a normal BS socket that is accepted in the UK and the termination (the live connection) is always on the right. The neutral connection is always on the left. The CPC, or earth wire, is always at the top.
The terminations are clearly marked. The live connection is marked L, N, and E so it's very difficult to make a mistake. Were connecting it, today, into a ring circuit so we will have two live wires, two neutral wires, and two CPC wires.
It is very important, whenever you are connecting a socket that you make sure that the circuit is isolated at the fuse board. Turn off the circuit breaker to make sure that there is no power while you're connecting. I'm first going to turn off the live connection, and you need to make sure that you get all of the cable into the termination hole and then tighten the screw down.
Make sure that it's good and tight. Give it a little pull, then go to the neutral connection and again, make sure that the termination is open all the way out in order to get both cables in side by side. Again, make sure that you always get a good tight connection.
Then make off the CPC. Once you are assured all the connections are tight, screw the face plate back on. Now making off a double socket is exactly the same as making off the single socket, with one set of clearly marked connections at the back.
