How To Work As A Team
Paintball is a team game that requires skill with a gun, tactical awareness and the ability to work as a team. Videojug went to Mayhem Paintballing in Abridge, Essex, to see how you can turn your useless recruits into a team of crack commandos

Step 1:

Terrain

The usual gamezone will be a kind of rectangular shape, or a variation on it. Your team will start at one end of the zone, and the enemy team will occupy the other. Usual missions include either grabbing a flag in the centre of the field, and getting it back to your own base; or simply capturing the opponents' base. Teams should never do this.....* instead think smart: spread out and try and take both of the boundary areas, where you can focus your energies on firing infield, or on supporting some team members as they get behind the enemy- and surround them.

Team roles

Each member of the team should have a clear role to play. If the game is capture the flag, one person should be nominated to actually grab it, and if they get shot- that role should be taken up by another player. Other roles might include defending the base, or attacking left or right flanks, or sniping from an out-the-way position. Whatever your role is, make sure you stick to it.

Communicate

Use the opening moments of the game to scope out what the enemy is doing, and pass on that information to your team mates- by shouting if necessary Then you need to listen to what your team members are telling you, and act on it. Communication can be tricky in the action-packed, scenario that is a game of paintball, but all the experts say communicating as a team is the fastest way to victory.

Adapt

Keep your wits about you, and if you are the last one of your team left alive, you will need to adapt your role. You could go on a suicidal run, and try to capture the flag alone, or you can snipe as many of the enemy as possible. You never know, you might end up being the hero of the hour.....
