How To Write A Law School Personal Statement

No need to worry anymore about how to start and finish a personal law statement. This video will be your guide.

Hello, my name is Georgina and I'm from City Law Tutors. Being able to write a concise yet complete law statement is a skill necessary for anyone wishing to practice law. Your ability to present yourself well in paper and limited space will attest your skills of precise and accurate wording as well as your ability to present only the relevant information without depriving any important fact of representation.

There are skills necessary to any lawyer. There are many ways of writing a good personal statement. In my view, the ideal personal statement is wonderfully short yet when read, paints a complete and thorough picture of its author.

Before you begin, make sure you outline points that you want to mention. Structure your points in such a way to be able to devote one paragraph to one topic. For example, firstly you will begin with who you are and which stage of your studies or career you're at right now.

remember, this is a personal statement and not a biography, therefore outline your points with relevance and not chronological order. Secondly, you will wish to express enthusiasm for the subject overall whilst if possible, giving specific reasons for why you wish to study law. It is always beneficial to take your reasons clearly and in a focused manner.

Thirdly, it is equally important to express the reasons which attract you to specific institution degree course or training for which you are applying. The reason which will motivate an application for an academic degree in law will be different from that involved in a professional training. Find out as much as possible about the format and the content of the course you are applying for and if possible, who will be teaching you.

Finally, you will write your conclusion. Do not include any new information but make sure you bring together everything you have already said in a punchy manner. Restate your reasons distinctly, keep your sentences short and do not worry about dramatic finishes.

It is always more profitable to appear focused and determined. City Law Tutors regularly provide advice and assistance for students on how to write their personal law statement. .
