Classic rock songs are always going to be a wonderful part of music history. In this video, Richie gives you some tips on how to write a classic of your own.
How to write a rock song. One possible technique would be to examine ones that who like and see what the components for those are. Usually, you will find there's a big riff, you'll find that there are movements of fourths.
That's what often occurs. There will be a solo, maybe there will be a midsection, and then put all these things together yourself on your own cool pattern. So, for example, here is a famous riff.
So, that goes for the verse. So, that is basically orientating around an A. So when it comes to the chorus, you want to jump a fourth, the fourth interval between an A and a D.
Then, you might have some stops so your drummer can get in there. Then you're back into your verse. Your solos, you can have a whole different chord structure for your solos or you might be playing over one of the sections of the verse or the chorus.
In this case, I think there are playing over the chorus. Then, it goes to an A, back to D, then your E, then they go back into the main riff. That is Living Loving Maid by Led Zeppelin.
There are so many other examples of famous riffs. The Man Who Sold the World. These are made out of the movement within the chords.
So, here is another one. All that is, is basically going from a D to an E. So you're finding notes within a D and trying to get a smooth way between the D and the E and that's the basis of your riff.
For the Satisfaction tune, you're starting on an E. So, he is playing a B note out of that, passing through a note, C sharp, to get to the D, while he is on the D chord. So you have got to find out what key you are in, so your solos are good.
You can reference some of the notes out of the chords you're playing over in the solo so it doesn't sound just like a generic pentatonic scale and then you've got your basis for a rock song. .
