How To Write An Action Plan

Within this short video, accomplished author Jurgen Wolff details the necessary steps in devising and implementing a successful action plan. He goes over and reviews all steps in his method.

This video is about how to write an action plan. Now, the strategy I recommend is starting at the end. So you decide what is the result you want from this action plan.

So, for example, let's say that you want to organize a conference, and the outcome you want to have is to have a great conference that takes place on a specific date. And then identify what are the big key elements that you are going to need in order for that to happen. And don't worry about the order yet.

So, for example, you might say "Well, I've got to hire speakers to give speeches. I've got to arrange the catering, the food that's going to be served. I've got to organize the audio visual equipment," and so on.

And there might be quite a few of these that you do as you go through the planning. Once you've got them all down, then think about the logical order that in which you need to do these. Certain things will need more lead time than others.

You can do it in a timeline, so basically on the left hand side, today's date and at the end, you have the date of the thing you'll be doing, the conference, and then you figure out how to schedule each of these components that you've identified based on which ones need more lead time. Then, you've got a very good diagram of this whole process. You know how much time you have for each step.

Having a plan like this means that you have a definite goal, means that you have the steps to that goal and that you have a certain amount of flexibility built within. So, just to summarize now, in order to write an action plan, you can start at the end. You can then figure out all the components you need.

You figure out which ones need the most lead time and schedule everything along the timeline like that and then, also have people who support you. Be aware of what these steps are and the timeline as well. And that's how to write an action plan. .
