Kiteboarding: KITEs Method Warm Up
Here is a brief overview of the KITEs Method Warm Up. For More about the Warm Up check out the KITEs Method Book, DVD or E-course at kitesmethod.com
Step 1: KITEs Warm Up
Most kiters don’t realize that a kite will fly without the bar and lines but it will here’s proof. The traditional technique people tried to water their first day long lines a very frustrating process slam the kite on the beach got pulled up on the beach. Basically horrified themselves and terrorized the beach. Look, just grab the leading edge of the Kite a classic kite like pictured here you just grab the wing tips. The newer flatter arm kites you can either grab the leading edge bridal or a combination of the leading edge and trailing edge. Pictured here the rider has the leading edge and the trailing edge bridal connected.
Step 2: Making hoops:
The most common email question we get is hey how make hoops for my flatter arm kite. Just go out and experiment with it start by holding the leading edge bridals and then work from there. Once your comfortable the goal in the warm up is to square your body to the kite when the side of the wind window. Square your body to the kite when it’s at the side of the wind window. Its okay if the kite is on the sand that’s fine the most important thing is that your head, your shoulders, your hips and your knees are square. The most important thing is to square up to the kite at the side of the wind window.
Step 3: Watch Clarrisa
Watch Clarrisa the instructor physically lengthen the arms of the rider. She gets all the tension out of the rider’s body and look how relaxed he is now he’s squared up. She’s asking him to turn now by looking first with the head then moving the shoulders then moving the body’s core. Now watch her physically go in and move his hips and his knee now he’s squared up. The important thing a coach does in this situation is to square a rider up because those hips will often trail. Once your squared up and you’re comfortable its only the park the kite of the power hour and move across the direction of the wind. Now look here the rider has a chance to learn to navigate around people around things. He learns how to park the kite and move his body across the direction of the wind rather than stand on the beach fly a figure eight, which is absolutely worthless. Learn how to park the kite and move across the direction of the wind this will start to teach you about a para wind one of the most crucial concepts in kite boarding.
Step 4: Now hit the water:
Look at this rider move across the direction of the wind and create more wind in the kite. Now once you’re comfortable with that you want to hit the water. You want to drag yourself out transition and come in because then you’ll be able to test the ride area the exit area you’re comfortable with the water the by all those important things that you don’t want to start to learn about unfolding later you want to learn about it now. Let the kite pull you out into the water now watch the riders feet you see the bottom of his feet show up you’ve got to let the kite pull you and you’ve got to let your legs trail behind kick with your legs let the kite pull you again no tension. Go out transition and get pulled back in as you come back to the beach let go with one hand. It’s going to kill your kite and there you go there one lap or one warm up. What you want to do is do multiple laps multiple warm-ups and get comfortable with the wind strength the wind direction the launching, the ride area, the exit area get comfortable with where your going to be kiting too many people just go out and pull their blinds and just learn the hard way. Don’t do that warm up with the kite warm up.
