So you'd like to learn how to meditate. Meditation is a practice that can take you towards peace. Perhaps most importantly, it's a practice that lets you learn about who you really are.
I'm Lee. I'm a Great Life Coach, and over the last ten years I've helped hundreds of people find passion and peace through meditation. So over the years I've worked with many people helping them learn how to meditate and one of the biggest issues that people come up against with learning to meditate is to actually make the time to do it.
This takes real commitment. One of the things I really recommend doing is that you allocate an exact time and a day that you're actually going to do it and you then decide I'm going to do it. So when you're actually ready to practice one of the first things I'd recommend having is a space to actually do your practice in, and of course the quieter the better.
It's nice to create a little ritual around your meditation as well so if you want to light a candle, burn some incense or something like that, that works too as well and these are really little subtle signals to your body just to let them know that it's time to go into a different way of being in the world. Once you've got your space set up the next thing you are going to need is to sit down. Now you can actually sit down anywhere.
You could in fact lay down though I don't recommend it. The problem with laying down is when we lay down it signals to our body time for sleep. Too often people sit down to meditate and they just- it's a great opportunity for a nap.
Meditating is not sleeping. If you want to sit on a chair that's great, but one of the things I recommend is sitting on one of these. This is called a Zafu, a little meditation cushion.
