Miss California Mix-Up: Trump Pageant In Trouble Again
They don't call 'em drama queens for nothin'. This year's new Miss California has already been de-throned! And she didn't have to appear nude in Playboy to lose her crown. An apparent accounting mix-up of the scoring points given by five celebrity judges led to the wrong woman being crowned Miss California USA. Videojug has the exclusive scoop on what went down!
Here's how it went down:
After months of dieting, working out, picking the perfect wardrobe, and a grueling weekend of interviews prior to the event, Miss Los Angeles, Christina Silva, was declared the winner of the Miss California pageant.
Christina's title of being the most beautiful girl in California has been stripped from her literally overnight.
To add insult to injury, Silva was asked to relinquish her title by personally calling Miss Barstow Raquel Beezley, who was originally named the second runner-up.
But tears and scandals are nothing new for the Miss Universe and Miss USA pageants, both run by everyone's favorite billionaire boss, Donald Trump.
The former Miss Nevada Katie Rees was de-throned after some "Girls Gone Wild-ish" footage of her was leaked to the media. Then, admitted alcoholic Miss USA Tara Conner was almost stripped of her sash before the Donald stepped in to forgive her sins.
But to be canned thanks to an accounting error? Heartbreaking AND boring.
Immediately after the pageant, several judges questioned the results of the competition at the Orpheum Theater in Los Angeles. Pageant Judge Ty Griffin told VideoJug that he and the other judges were surprised at the announcement of the winner after discussing their favorite contestants.
So they wasted no time opening and recounting the ballots... Blaming it all on "simple human error".
Sure, the pageant is allowing Silva to keep her crown, sash and necklace but it's the newly-crowned Miss California Raquel Beezely who will represent the Golden State at the Miss USA pageant in April 2008.
Small consolation for Silva, especially since she felt pressured to step down. No surprise, she has hired an attorney and is weighing her legal options. She wouldn't represent our nation well if she didn't consider suing!
Either way, Judge Ty Griffin tells VideoJug that he's hoping Christina can spin it all in her favor, since in a city like Los Angeles, bad publicity is still good publicity.
