Pet Dental Care

It is important to care for your dog’s teeth, although sometimes it’s a bit of an afterthought. Maintaining your dog’s dental hygiene is a big part of keeping them healthy and happy. Watch this video to see ways to keep your dogs teeth clean. Give them an edible toothbrush, have their teeth cleaned one a year or just brush them the old fashioned way.

Step 1:
-
Pet's Teeth
-
A dog needs his teeth for much more than eating. When you think about it, a dog uses its teeth in much the same way that we human use our hands. That’s why it’s very important to make sure your pet’s teeth are in tip-top shape.
Dental care is the most important thing you can do to extend your pet’s life.

Step 2:
-
Studies
-
A recent study found that one of every two dogs in America has periodontal disease. This disease affects the gums and bones, can lead to tooth loss and even cause a blood infection.
Buddy is your typical dog who won’t allow you to brush his teeth. That’s why I have to rely on a veterinarian once a year to clean them for him.
-
Step 3:
-
Gingivitis
-
Now take a look at Bud’s teeth. If you notice any redness or red lines on the gums or yellowing of the teeth like Buddy here, it’s an early sign of gingivitis; and time to get your pet to the vet.
-
Step 4:
-
Oral Rinse
-
A great way to reduce the build up of plague is to use an oral rinse. This product can be sprayed on the teeth and often comes in flavors that dogs love.
Or try edible tootbrush like Greenies. The best way to stop plaque, good old-fashioned brushing. It takes some time but after a while your dog will get used to it and hopefully so will you.
-
Step 5:
-
Pet Brush
-
The most important thing is daily brushing. If you can brush your pet’s teeth twice a day, you virtually never have to have the teeth cleaned again.
-
Step 6:
-
Other Dental Treatments
-
The newest technique in dental care is the antibiotic pill that controls periodontal disease. Remember, if you take good care of your dog’s teeth, they should last a lifetime. And besides, you don’t have to worry about doggie breath.
