Pets In The Workplace

Does your company have “Bring Your Pet To Work Day”? No? Maybe it should! Have pets in the office means a more creative work environment and that interpersonal skills improve, a study has shown. Mitch Wilder takes us on a tour of the pet filled office. “For me it would help a lot if I could have puppies at work with me,” an office manager says in the film. The Humane Society sponsors Four Legged Fun Days, which brings shelter animals to the office, lowering stress for some workers, and maybe getting the pets adopted. And in addition, when companies allow pets at the office, companies report employees taking fewer sick days.

Step 1:
-
Pet To Work Day
-
Most pet owners know that a dog or cat can have a relaxing effect on people. Some office managers are taking that idea to heart. A few companies across the country are sponsoring "bring your pet to work" days.

Step 2:
-
Benefits
-
Some of the benefits of having pets in the workplace: less stress, fewer sick days, and employees are more productive.
And there's research to back it up. A study by the A.P.P.M.A. found that a majority of companies polled indicated that having pets in the workplace leads to a more creative environment. The study also found interpersonal skills were improved among employees.
For me, it would help a lot if I could have my puppies in the office with me.

Step 3:
-
Stress Free
-
The Humane Society of Miami-Dade county was quick to jump on the idea. They're sponsoring "Four Legged Fun Days."
For the office employee, it's a stress-free break in the middle of their day to come and spend some time with a dog or a cat, and really just have a fun break in the middle of the day. For these pets, it's wonderful because they're getting more exposure, increasing their awareness, and helping to get them adopted.
A couple of benefits of programs like Four Legged Fun Days, it allows these beautiful pets to get out of their shelter. It also allows employees in an office to interact with pets.

Step 4:
-
Animal Comforts
-
While the program may be lowering stress for some workers, it also serves the purpose of finding a good home for some great animals.
