Step 1:
-
Fighting Dog
-
Few dogs have inspired as much controversy and fear as the pitbull. Bred as a fighting dog, the pit has the reputation as an unpredictable savage killer.
But there is another side to these animals not often seen. If pitbulls could elect a goodwill ambassodor, Amber would surely win the vote.

Step 2:
-
Pitbull Terrier
-
She does affect a lot of people in a good way. I've seen it. Amber is an American Pitbull Terrier. Her owner, Wendy Hendricks, rescued her from the pound. While Amber certainly has the pitbulls muscular agressive appearance, she's proving that pitbulls can have a softer, more gentler side.
Amber is one of the very few American Pitbull Terrier therapy dogs in the United States. Her job is going to retirement homes and making the elderly feel less lonely or helping chronically ill children.
The immediate reaction is just smiles. And, "Oh, she's so pretty. Oh, she's so sweet." And Amber just eats that up.

Step 3:
-
Gentility
-
So how does one go about turning a pitbull into on gentle enough to be used around children?
When you have one of these dogs, they need to be trained because they are very strong and they may not mean to accidently knock over a child or anything. But they are strong dogs and they need to be under control. You need to learn how to manage that strength.

Step 4:
-
Pitbull Attacks
-
Pitbull attacks are almost always the result of poor supervision and handler error. It's important to recognize that pitbulls require a greater degree of commitment from their owners.
While not all pitbulls are as gentle as Amber, she is setting a good example for a commonly misunderstood breed.
