Drive shots are practically the bread and butter of a squash player. Here is a video that tells you how to do it brought to you by Videojug.
Hi, my name is Bob Jaffe. I am the director of coaching in the Dulwich Squash Club in London. I am going to talk to you about the equipment you are going to need, the etiquette you are going to use on court, and the sort of shots that you are going to play and how you are going to play them.
For the forehand drive, correct grip, get the racket into a ready position behind you. Turn your shoulders to the back wall. Get your left foot across and strike through.
Finishing with your racket in an outward position. The impact point you are looking for is on the instep of your left leg. You should be able to play off with both feet, but, just to keep it simple, we are going to work on the left leg for this shot.
So hitting the ball, strike it on the instep of the left leg and then, follow through keeping your racket like that. For the backhand drive, correct grip, racket up and ready, step across with your right foot, then you should be able to play off both feet. Turn the right shoulder, and the key thing here is striking the ball infront of you so you can see my foot is behind the short line.
The point where i impact the ball will be just ahead of the short line. From that position here. so if you just watch through again, racket up and ready, you notice the followthrough again telling the ball where to go.
The racket finishing up and ahead of me.
