Playing Squash: How To Volley
While playing squash, being able to properly volley is one of the most important skills in the game. Learn from Bob Jaffe, Director of Coaching at the Dulwich Squash Club in London, how to improve your squash game!
Hi. My name's Bob Jaffe. I am the director of coaching at Dulwich Squash Club in London.
I'm going to talk to you about the equipment you are going to need, the etiquette you're going to use on court, and the sort of shots that you're going to need to play, and how you are going to play them. Forehand volley: Once again, make sure you've got the correct grip, racket up and ready. This is a much more compact shot.
Turn your shoulders toward the back wall, leading off of the left foot again, on the forehand side. And, face open, pushing the ball back. You see I've just opened the face to the racket.
Racket back, ready, and my target is this area here: Side wall, back corner. Racket again, up and ready. Wrist back, face the racket open, and follow through, again in a straight direction.
If your follow through goes straight, the racket, the ball has a very good chance of following that line as well.
