Step 2:
-
Fit the pole
-
Before you begin pole dancing make sure your pole is securely fitted according to the manufacturer's instructions.
Give yourself lots of space and ensure that there is nothing obstructing your movement.
-
Step 3:
-
Don't use lotions
-
Never pole dance wearing oils or lotions as these make the pole slippery and hazardous.
You may need to wipe down the pole too before you start to remove any grease and give you maximum grip.
-
Step 4:
-
Stretch
-
Always warm up and cool down properly when you are pole dancing; and check that you are fit and healthy enough to start this physically demanding exercise.
-
Step 5:
-
Grab the pole
-
Start off with the pole on your strong side. Raise your strong hand high above your head and grab the pole, keeping your arm straight.
-
Step 6:
-
Turn around
-
Take a step forward on your inside foot, and, still holding the pole up high, pivot around so that you are facing backwards.
-
Step 7:
-
Hook the pole
-
Hook your other leg around the pole gripping behind the knee, and grab the pole with your other hand. Hug the pole close to your side so that it sits almost in your arm-pit.
-
Step 8:
-
Jump up
-
Push off hard with your standing foot, immediately whipping your knee out to the side. At the same time, drop your head and shoulders back to pull you backwards around the pole.
-
Step 9:
-
Spin
-
Spin round and down with knees apart and toes together. Arch your back and push your hips forward for a better spin.
-
Step 10:
-
Land
-
Land gently on your knees, and finish off the move with an arch backwards.
-
Step 11:
-
Stand up
-
Raise yourself onto both feet and push up into a standing position.
