Potty Training Puppies
Potty training a new puppy can be a frustrating experience. Be sure to keep your dog in an enclosed space during the night. When they are old enough to take walks, be sure that they get them every three hours for a three-month old dog, every four hours for a four-month old dog, and so on. At eight months, they should be fine throughout the night.

Step 1:
-
Potty Training
-
Potty training and new puppy can be a frustrating experience. But with a little patience and basic training you can get your dog to go where and when you want them to. With puppies you want to keep them confined to a crib or other blocked off area.
-
Step 2:
-
Praise Your Puppy
-
First thing in the morning, take them under your arm and place them outside. Praise them after they go. You may have to do this up to three weeks before they get the idea.
-
Step 3:
-
Walking
-
When your puppy is old enough to go work walks, it’s important to walk them regularly. At three months, puppies need walks about every three hours. At four months, every four hours and so on. Once they hit eight months, they’ll probably get through the night.

Step 4:
-
Enhanced Training
-
The number one way to get your dog to get to your number two is training. The next time your dog starts to defecate, chat something like, “hurry up, hurry up, hurry up.” Stop when they stop eliminating. Continue this for two weeks or so. Using the same tone, the same chant. Pretty soon, your dog will associate the chant with going to the bathroom. And you’ve trained your dog to go in command.
This technique can also work indoors if you have a smaller dog. Just apply the training technique using a hose baking pad.

Training Tips

Here’s some other “Puppy Potty Tips”. Keep pups on a leash supervised indoors. When they have to go, lead them to the pads or newspapers. When you leave for the day, place them in a confined area covered with newspapers. Gradually eliminate most of the newspapers until the puppy uses one area.

Step 6:
-
Desired Praise
-
If your dog goes in that desired area get excited praise them and give them a treat. Of course, accidents will happen. Next time on the Pet Report, I’ll give you the low down on what cleaners really work.
