Recession: How To Survive Redundancy

It's a sad fact that unemployment rises in times of recession, so if you are worried that your job might not be safe or if the worst has already happened, then we at Videojug have spoken to some of the top experts about what to do next.
-
Step 1:
-
Your rights
-
If you're facing redundancy, there are certain legal formalities that your employer will have to follow. You must have been consulted with before redundancy. The employer must be able to prove there is no work for you, and importantly, the redundancy must not be discriminatory. If they haven't done these things, then perhaps you can take your employers to a tribunal.. You might not get your job back but you might get some compensation.
-
Step 2:
-
Get help
-
If you're now not earning, you'll need some money coming in to help with the bills. State benefits are a useful crutch to help you in the short term while you get yourself sorted out. See your local benefits advisor or contact the Job Centre Plus for more advise about which benefits you would be entitled to.
-
Step 3:
-
Tighten your belt
-
Now is a good time to reduce your outgoings. Switching utility supplier can save you up to £200 per year. You can also reduce what you spend on food and entertainment. Look for the shops where you can buy basics in bulk. And don't feel like you have to have everything in the fridge. Your family will be able to make do in the short term.
-
Step 4:
-
Get straight back out there.
-
Don't plan to be out of work for too long. Get your CV sorted and get straight back into the job market. Contact agencies, look on job-seekers websites like Monster.com, get in touch with your local jobcentre plus, and keep an eye on the situations vacant section of your local newspaper.
