Step 1: Meet Jameel
As you see, Jameel has got lots of hair, but it's not very thick. It actually goes down to quite a small ponytail. So, I would like to take advantage of some volume and eliminate the excess bulk -- giving her hair a frizz free, funky short hair cut.
Step 2: Add dimension.
Jameel, now you've had color in your hair before, correct? Yes. So, you understand the importance of taking care of it. I want to be bold with your color. I want to put bright colors. Colors that you can see through your dark hair. I want to see these highlights. I want to slash them. I'm going to be working with bright reds, deeper plummy tones. And I'm going to throw in a little bit of a gold, so that it does add that dimension.
Step 3: The tunnel cut
The tunnel cut is a cutting technique that controls the excess bulk, in areas where you would like to reduce the bulk. The key behind it is to understand that you won't see the little tunnels. We have to keep them invisible. But, for her hair it's a perfect spot back here, because we want to keep this area flat. We don't want to take it too short. And we just want to eliminate the bulk.
Step 4: Control your hair
Here we did a lot of styling today. We did the tunnels. We did the highlights. We did the styling. I used a leave-in conditioner -- a soft leave-in conditioner to control that excess wiriness. Curly hair sometimes has those rough pieces. And I found you had it on the very tip. Tilt keeper for the frizz, leave-in conditioner to control the wiriness. You've got fabulous hair. Thank you. It's nice. I love it! You're welcome.
