Tennis: High Deep Spin
Fabián "Fab" Nuñez Seixa shows how to put the pressure on your opponent by playing with high deep spin. Watch this VideoJug tennis film and you will soon have yours perfect.
Step 1: The grip
Use the Eastern forehand grip, as shown in our video "the basic grips".
Place your racquet hand on the strings, slide it down, and close it around the grip.
Step 2: The body position
Prepare to play just as you would for any other forehand shot, as explained in our video "the forehand": Turn your body side-on to the ball.
Your racquet, shoulders, hips, and both hands, should all be in line with where you want to play your shot.
Step 3: The shot
Hit the ball early, as it is rising, to create most spin. The racquet head should approach the ball from below.
As you hit the ball, smoothly change the direction of your swing so the racquet head is moving upwards.
Twist your wrist slightly at the moment of impact to enhance the upward movement of the racquet head. The ball should run along the strings rather than bury itself in them. Accelerate your arm as much as possible as you hit, and follow through to finish with your racquet above your left shoulder.
If you don't manage to get enough power in your arm, compensate by making the ball cross the net at a height of two metres or more, so it makes a higher arc and travels further.
So hit the ball as it rises with strong arm acceleration and an upward movement of the racquet, and send your opponent to the back of the court with high deep spin.
