Ukulele Lessons - Left Hand Technique: Fingering

Free Ukulele Lessons - We often hear our strings buzz or sound muffled when we start off making our first chords. The reason for this is not having the correct left hand finger positioning. Aaron from Hawaii Music Supply shows you how to place your fingers in the correct position between the frets on a ukulele.

Step 1:
-
Introduction To The Ukelele
-
Hey, this is Aaron from Hawaii Music Supply. Today I'm going to show you how to do the correct fingering on the fretboard If you are a beginner and you are starting out, and your chords sound like 'watch video'. Then it is probably because either you are not pressing hard enough, or your fingers are in the wrong place.
-
Step 2:
-
Fret & Fingers
-
So lets take a look at it. We want to place our fingers behind the fret. So we are not on top of it, we are behind the fret, and we are letting the string vibrate over the top, essentially just shortening the string.
-
Step 3:
-
Pressure
-
Now, another thing is pressure. If you want to press, a lot of times, if you press to hard, the note becomes sharp. Too soft, and it does not sound. So you have got to find the right amount of pressure.
-
Step 4:
-
Finger Exercises
-
There are a few fingering exercises to help you with this and we are going to go over that in our next video. Well, you know what, forget about the next video. Let's just do it now.We are going to take our one two three four fingers and go on frets one two three four of each string, one by one. One two three four, one two three four, and so forth.
-
Step 5:
-
Practice The Ukelele
-
If you practice this every day, and I know it's looks tedious and boring, but if you practice this every day, your fingers will become accustomed to placement, and you will get your dexterity in there, and it will be really easy to hold these chords, I promise.
