-
Stretching watercolour paper on a board is done to provide a stable working surface so that it does not bend when working with paper.
-
Before mounting the paper make sure the paper is smaller than the board.
-
Soak the paper, it should be evenly saturated with water on both sides. As the paper soaks it expands slightly and when fastened down onto the board after drying it shrinks.
-
When the paper is soaked and softened, pick it up by one corner and let the excess water drain off the bottom corner.
-
Place the paper on the board with a wide enough margin of the board visible all around the board. Use wide enough gum tape. Tear off 4 pieces of paper 2 short and 2 long strips.
-
Take the tape and run it through the water then stick it down so it is half way on the board and half way on the paper.
-
TIP: make sure the tape is long enough to overlap the end of the board.
-
Take a cloth to blot excess the moisture, start from the centre outwards in a circular direction until the wet shine is removed.
-
Put the board away out of sunlight away from sunlight away from heat sources and leave it lying flat ready to work on the next day.
