Wedding Invitation Assembly Etiquette

-
Step 1:
-
Prepare Work Surface
-
In order to assemble your wedding invitations by proper etiquette, you'll want to start with a large, clean work area such as a desk, or dining room table.
-
Step 2:
-
Who Will Organise?
-
You might want to enlist the help of a bridesmaid, mother, or groom to make things a little faster.
However, if you are a perfectionist, do it yourself to keep tension down.
-
Step 3:
-
Stack Your Insertions
-
Start with stacking your insertions so that you only have to pick up one pile to put into the invitation. Depending on what all you are including, they would go in a certain order to follow proper wedding invitation assembly etiquette. On bottom would be the tissue paper to separate the insertions from the invitation.
-
Step 4:
-
Reception Card
-
Next would be the reception card with a map on top of that. The next layer would be the response envelope with the response card tucked under the flap. Where the insertions are placed depends on if you have a single-fold or multi-fold invitation.
If it is single-fold with writing only on the outside, you place the insertions on the top. If it is multi-fold, you put the insertions inside the first fold.
-
Step 5:
-
Check Insertions
-
Place all of the insertion stacks into one invitations inner envelope at a time, but do not seal the envelope.Once you have stuffed all of the invitations, if you have extra insertion pieces left over you may have missed one.
This will mean going back and finding the invitation with the missing piece; which is why you didn't seal the envelopes. It would be bad invitation assembly etiquette for one of your guests to receive an invitation that is missing a vital piece such as the response kit, or map.
-
Step 6:
-
Match The Names & Addresses
-
After all pieces are accounted for, you may begin putting the inner envelopes inside the outer envelopes. If you have already addressed the outer envelopes, double-check that the names of the inner and outer envelopes match before sealing the outer envelope.
-
Step 7:
-
Postage
-
It would be a great etiquette faux pa to have mismatched guest names on the two envelopes. Now, you are ready to mail your correctly assembled invitations.
Personally, take them to the post office to be weighed for correct postage. Wedding invitation assembly etiquette would definitely frown on "postage due" arrivals in the guests' mailbox.
-
Step 8:
-
Machine Stamping
-
You can even request that the invitations not go through machine stamping to avoid ugly smear marks. Once you have them off in the mail the prescribed 6-8 weeks before the wedding date, you can move on to other planning details and rest up your writing hand until the gifts start coming in; for which you have to start addressing all those thank you notes.
