What To Do If You Find A Lost Homing Pigeon
Pigeons have a pretty amazing sense of direction, but even they can take a wrong turn now and again! Karen James, pigeon fancier, shows you how to help and repatriate a lost racing pigeon.
- The first thing to do is provide it with water and seeds; these can be bird food, uncooked rice or uncooked lentils. After food and water the bird might recover its strength, and leave on its own.
- You can trace the owner from its ID ring on its leg. You can contact the national union of racing pigeons for your country, and they should be able to put you in touch with the owner of the lost bird.
