Why I Hate Being A Teacher

Simon Warr explains why he hates being a teacher in modern Britain. Simon Warr explains why he hates being a teacher in modern Britain.

We live in an era which is hugely sympathetic to the adolescent viewpoint, yet children don't seem able to behave themselves. We've tried in schools to accommodate children's interests, but it has not been a successful venture. A series of legislations have been passed in the past 10-15 years which has manacled teachers' hands together - no longer are we in charge. Children can do exactly what they want, when they want, because there will be no reprisals. Teachers are virtually unable to discipline children.

The result is grim: exam results and behavioural standards are slipping.

That is why I dislike being a teacher in modern Britain.

All this from a "person"who kept his silence while his former employer +friend beat us'fondled, buggered and made our schooldays a living hell!Simon, you were a resident house master at the time of slades reigns of terror.I was there!!!Do you remember picking up a desk and throwing it at me?I dont expect you to be man enough to come clean and tell the truth,I was only 12 but remember your volatile temper and readiness to send us to be stripped from the waist down and beaten with various weapons to such extremes that we could no longer stand.I think you miss the fear you used to be able to instill into children and want to go back to these sad and oppressive times.Shame on you Mr.S.Warr and all the other staff members at ST.Georges1979-1984 who looked the other way! Or just did'nt care.If you cant use your intelligence to look beyond your own intelectual snobbery You dont deserve to be a teacher, letalone pretending it didnt happen.......!!!

I couldn´t agree more. Nowadays teacher´s authority is removed so educational atmosphere is so devalued that students´ perception is just "Absolute barbarism and fun".

You look like a paedo mate and most of the teachers I had were absolute scum to say the least. Teachers are s**te.

i agree with him 1m 15 and the whole school is full of jackasses. the reason why most people act like this is because they can and enjoy winding teachers up. exam results drop because people cant be bothered to work exept the top 2 sets

Hypothetical Situations? Simon, what sort of punishment would be suggested for these three 'events' please? 1. A pupil switches the classroom light off in the middle of a lesson, the teacher asks who did the deed and over half of the pupils state that it was one particular boy. The boy is given detention but the mother refuses to sign the detention form, the detention does not happen, the boy is let off completely. 2. A boy becomes frustrated in with his English essay in class, he swears to himself (the 'f' word) under his breath yet the teacher hears him. Within two days, another boy swears loudly directly at the teacher ("'f' off"). What punishments should be given to both, should the cane be used on either? 3. In a school where a number of graffiti incidents are claimed to be the worst [damage], a boy kicks a double door creating £270.00 damage. Is he due the cane?

Simon Warr is not whining, he is p[rimarily stating a piont, but withthe highest of passion. i know just what he means, but just with not quite the experience he feels it with, in that the time that he has spent teaching in the profession that he loves so much but which is failing beyond his control. Really, what he said? It speaks for itself.

Firstly i find it really disgusting the way you speak to people who have a different opinion to yours. Then again it is through a computer so people can easily big themselves up "I could pass my A levels with my eyes closed and hands tied behind my back" <<Oh really? Must have been REALLY easy tests in your days. I am speaking as a year 11 student who is actually experiencing teaching methods right now, you might be from the dark ages where you still think its OK to hit someone who isnt learning properly, but im definitely not.

Yes teaching standards have gone down, in the hopes of meeting the intelligence of the "average" teenager. unfortunately, they're still WAY above that standard, so they "dumb" things down a bit more to cater for chavs! Bring back the cane and teach the annoying little feckers a PROPER lesson!!!!
