Step 1:

Winter Season
-
The winter season is upon us, and along with it comes cooler temperatures and holiday cheer. While it is a festive time, it's important to take certain precautions to make sure your pet stays safe.
It goes without saying to be aware of falling temperatures, and never leave your pet outside when the temperature dips below 40 degrees. Dogs can get frostbite and hypothermia if left outside for too long.

Step 2:
-
Pet Food
-
Inside, your guests may be filled with holiday cheer, but make sure that food stays on the table. Fatty meats like ham and pate can cause pancreatitis. Chocolate is, of course, a no-no. Cigarette butts, if ingested, can cause nicotine poisoning.

Warnings

If you have a Christmas tree, make sure your pet doesn't drink from the water bowl. The water may contain dangerous fertilizers. If swallowed, ribbons or tinsel can get caught in the intestines and cause an intestinal obstruction.
One of the most dangerous winter hazards to pets is antifreeze. It contains ethylene glycol. A few drops can be lethal to your pets. A safer alternative is either Prestone LowTox or Sierra antifreeze. They contain propylene glycol, a much safer alternative.
Be careful with cold medications. As little as four pills can be enough to put a dog in a coma. If your pet gets poisoned, call the ASPCA Poison Control Center at 888-426-4435.
The holiday time is here. Family and friends bring good cheer. But let's not forget our four-legged friends, and make sure they stay safe throughout the happy New Year.
