Your Artists Website Is For Life - Free Marketing Tips
In the free music marketing tips I talk about the thinking you should take when you're building your first website. Your website address will be with you for the life of your imaging so take time and thought when developing it!
Step 1: Website Tactics
Hey, what's going on? This is Jeeps with Talkmusicbiz.com. Let's talk about your website tactics real quick. When you build your website, whatever your choice of format is, HTML or flash. I hope it's HTML. Flash can be a little difficult with the search engine optimization tactics and the spiders or the crawlers or the bots or the search engines trying to find pertinent information about you. But I'm not going to get into a big deal about that and I'm also not going to tell you how to build your website.
Step 2: Appeal
One of the things that I suggest to a lot of artists is "Why don't you go take a look at the top five websites that you like to interact with? If you think they're cool, check out what the components are and how they're built. How does it appeal to you? Obviously, the most important thing in my little sand box of tricks is that the mailing list should be on every page. There's no two ways about that. Your Nav system is very obvious. Every website has a nav system, you know about us, venues, playing live, live music and stuff. Don't forget about the embedding of all your social media interactivity. Your Youtube videos, your live streaming shows that you might do once every ten days or twice a month. Very important with the mailing list.
Step 3: Branding
Also, don't forget that your website is going to be eternally branded to you as an artist. So once you release your website as an artist and you really "This is me.com" and you'll say you're a very young artist and so your sixteen or seventeen or eighteen and you plan on making a life out of this. Remember, your branding an image of yourself to that URL.
Step 4: Update Your Website
Please remember to be updating your website. Change the look every year or two or every project that you release, definately. Every new project that you release, you have to change the look of your website and don't forget the interactivity of the website is extremely important. There's that other video that I had about the widgets to be implemented on the website, you'll see that on Talk Music Biz. Very important, as well as the live streaming videos.
Step 5: Buy Music
Don't forget, of course, to buy music. Some of the modules now, you can actually imbed in your website. I think I believe snow cap is still allowing that to go down. And there's a couple of other modules where you can actually sell music, take the module, put it in your website so they don't have to be redirected elsewhere. Then again, where ever you do have your music distributed, of course, you can just do a redirect button instead of housing the selling of your units within the website. Which, I'd say ninety percent of the people are doing.
Step 6: SEO Tactics
And then finally, the most important thing, as you will also see in that video that I have on talk music biz, is the search engine optimization tactics. Please review that video, look up what search engine optimization is about on search engines so you can understand it. And that also can be changed and flexible. It's like you can run four or five months with particular key phrase and keywords and if it's not drawing the attention that you want, you change that up also. So, not withstanding everything I said, which is pretty much the obvious. When you're building your website the best thing to do is to go look at your favorite other websites and what do you like and all of that sort of stuff. Color is in all that sort of stuff. Yeah, if I wanted to be a marketing guy I could tell you about all the psychographic colors and shapes and crap like that but I'm not down for that because it's about the music. Though some marketers would look at me and say I'm out of my mind for saying that. And then, of course, the flexibility of changing your website and also the flexibility of changing your keyword phrases and your keywords. To optimize for search engine optimization. So I know that was a very broad overstroke of what some website tactics are but I think when your at the very beginning of this you get a little overwhelmed. That's a very important tactic is to constantly be changing up your engine keywords and keyword phrases, if they're not working. And then you find a few that all of the sudden work and you lock into that and run for a while.
Step 7: Website Templates
And finally, what I think is a very cool, little quick piece of information. Go check out a company at website template companies, type that in at a search engine. Every now and then, even myself, I'll be helping friends out and I think it's called template monster or monster templates or something like that. Go check that out and sometimes you can get ideas from websites by looking at some of those templates or you actually might find a template and go "that's cool, I'll use that." So that also helps you out. Anyhow, Jeeps here Talkmusicbiz.com, a couple little tips there for website tactics. See You.
