Are Employers Obligated To Give A Day Off

Are employers required to give an employee a day off throughout the week? Is it also legal that they work an employee 6-7 days a week? If America would take a look at how Britain is run, the employee's are the one's who have the final word. Good hard workers are hard to come by in any country. When do we draw the line when it comes to employers requiring too much from an employee? All answers and opinions are welcome :)

http://business.ohio.gov/staying/#lelaws iis a website for the State of Ohio's labor laws. It looks like they don't have any specific laws (most states don't). What I have found is that when you take a salaried job, you may end up getting worked very hard and you need to calculate the hours you are working and what you are getting paid. Many times the managers are earning less than the employees per hour. Each person needs to determine if it is worth it. If more people would walk away from these jobs, employers wouldn't get away with this. When there is a shortage of jobs, more people are willing to work long hours, while if there is a shortage of employees, employees will walk away. Good companies don't treat their employees this way. I've been there more than once because I do accounting, and this is considered normal for many higher level accounting positions in WA State. I even interviewed with one company in the past that said the average work week would be 60 hrs.

I'm in the United States..in Ohio...lol...Although sometimes I think Ohio is a different country than all the rest. I know in Ohio they are not obligated to give lunch breaks according to the labor laws...just wasn't sure on full days off. There is another manager here who is forced to work 7 days a week (although 2 days are half days)...because they won't hire anyone in to help her.

I'm pretty sure that not all labor laws are the same but as far as I know, employees are obligated to a day off and meal times during their work hours (this of course may depend on your chosen profession). If you're really not sure, check with your country's labor code in your local library. p.s. I wouldn't place all my trust wikipedia on matters of the Law. It's best that you see for yourself.
