I agree with anon above. make sure you do your research before you hire a house cleaner. If you don't have any friends able to recommend a cleaner try a comparison web site like http://www.cleaningplace.co.uk (this covers UK cleaners only, there may be other sites in the states)

ask friends & neighbors if they know someone who cleans. most independent cleaning people don't advertise. if you're afraid to have a stranger in your home, have a cleaning service clean only the bathrooms and kitchen the first time (they won't be in the private areas of your home). if you're satisfied with the work, have them clean the entire home next time. you set how often you want your home cleaned, you should be able to cancel at anytime, be prapared before the cleaning service gets to your home, let the cleaning service do their job, stay out of their way, the price should be a flat fee, you should have the same person cleaning your home (you want to know who is in your home), don't leave valuables out, make sure the cleaning person knows they can help themselves to sodas or juices. if you think someone has stolen from your home, cancel the service and call the police. didn't want to scare you with the last comment, just giving you good advice.
