Do I Have To Pay Stamp Duty If I Swap My House For One Of The Same Value?

We are considering doing a straight swap with a couple who like our house. Both houses are the same value so no money would change hands, but do we still have to pay stamp duty ?

If there is no Mortgages involved and you are swapping houses of the same value, why not agree that they are worth £125,000 each avoid Stamp Duty all togeter,

Exchanges between private individuals are not exempt from stamp duty land tax. You and the couple you are swapping houses with will each have to pay stamp duty on the full value of the property acquired.
